I Can't Be in Peri/Menopause Yet, Can I?

It's a wider range of time than many of us were taught to expect, so yes. You can be in perimenopause (the time leading up to menopause) for up to about TEN YEARS before you transition to postmenopause.
The average age of menopause is around 52 years old, but (barring surgical menopause due to removal of the ovaries) it can happen as early as 45 years old. So if you can do the math (don't worry; I'll do it for you!) you might start to have symptoms of perimenopause as early as your mid-thirties.
YOUR MID-THIRTIES.
It's so easy to disregard most of the things that begin to sneak up on us: the small differences in our menstrual cycles, for example. Or the increased fatigue and foggy brain. We're busy people, and many of us have families that require us to be on our toes. It seems like it would be natural to be tired and distracted. So many things can effect our cycles it's simple to write it off.
Here's the thing, though: if we're not paying attention and making changes as our bodies begin to change, we can get blindsided when the symptoms get too big to ignore anymore. One day you wake up and can hardly move your shoulder and everything hurts!
This is why I encourage people to get ahead of the curve and start practicing the 5-S Menopause Yoga Method before things get out of hand. We can learn to tune in to our bodies better so we can address what's happening without waiting too long. The Method itself helps us to manage a lot of symptoms too.
So if you're still in a state of denial about whether you could be in the beginnings of perimenopause, why don't you join me for practice so we can learn to pay attention to see if, maybe, it's time.
